Supporting recovery - one day at a time

Who we are

More Good Days is changing the way we look at long-term Substance Use Disorder management. We deliver a unique model of support that brings together clinical services, community engagement and housing in a model that is underpinned by a deep understanding of the of the person.

We are a spin off of State of the Heart Recovery, a non-profit organization delivering innovative opioid management in New Mexico with a focus on improving the lives of people that often fall through the cracks of our healthcare system.

We are on a mission to fundamentally re-think the system of opioid management and to create More Good Days for people hoping to break the cycle of addiction.

We can do better

Despite significant funding, substance use disorder treatment programs, specifically opioid treatment programs, are falling short in delivering long-term, sustainable recovery in our communities.

Our goal is to give HOPE to the people we work with and foster More Good Days.

Social inequality

Lets be real – its hard to deal with the multiple challenges that high-acuity and socially distressed clients face, but that’s exactly where the greatest impact can be made.

'Medicine'-focussed

Many providers focus their approach on medication rather than therapy and support – unfortunately this can lead to MAT being used as a legal dispensary of narcotics.

Turnstile engagement

Without an intensive and high-touchpoint (or live-in) approach, individuals re-enter the very environment that undermines their recovery, making it impossible to break the cycle of addiction.

What we do

Provide a safetynet

Targeting populations that often fall through the cracks of traditional care including the homeless, those at risk of homelessness and those re-entering from incarceration.

Treat the whole person

A holistic approach that addresses treatment, housing, employment and community through an intensive co-habitation model of care.

Incentivise positive behaviors

Our model is based on behavioural health and contingency management to drive program adherence and long-term recovery goals.

Pathway to self-sustainability

We believe those with lived experience are uniquely placed to help support others going through the journey, so we provide employment within our system as Certified Peer Support Workers.

How it works

Our unique approach brings together three core aspects into a single model of care.

Comprehensive treatment

We provide comprehensive treatment including medically-assisted-treatment, individual and group therapy, regular drug screening and further medical care when needed.

Tiered housing and support

We have a tiered housing program that incentivizes recovery behaviors. Our housing program not only provides shelter, but a safe and controlled space for recovery with peers.

Advanced technology, advanced care

Use of technology enables us to collect rich data, personalise treatment programs, predict and intervene when needed, and allows clinicians and staff to focus on care instead of admin.

Real-world Case Study

Joanne is a great example of what can happen when The More Good Days model is put into action.
This client was attending medically assisted treatment (MAT) programs for over a year with inconsistent therapy and inconsistent dosing and no pathway to recovery.
Under the MGD model she began attending therapy for 12 to 20 hours a week and dosing over 90% of the time.  Joanne completed the 10-day detox  a month after increasing her therapy and this achievement allowed her to gain access to stable housing amongst recovery peers.
Joanne is now over 12 months sober, working side jobs, volunteering in the “job readiness program” and engaged in a number of community programs.

Through the program, Joanne was able to find her dignity and hope for the future.

Progress to date

Funding the core service

The More Good Days service model is 100% covered by Medicaid
Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) service garners a $20 per day fee for 7 days a week = $155 per week per client
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) service garners a $240 per day fee for 5 days a week = $1340 per week per client.

Additional areas of focus

Real Estate

Currently we are renting units for the housing program, however we are actively looking to transition to property ownership with the benefit of housing stability and the confidence of regular rent.

SaaS Platform

The current platform leader in this space is Methasoft – which we feel is a weak incumbent with a strong possibility for a modern and enhanced platform able to capture significant market share.

Data

As the service scales, we will be generating a core dataset on a population that is otherwise neglected. Further, we will be gaining the ability to predict and optimise service delivery in the SUD/OUD space.

Settlements

There is over $50B in legal settlements associated with the opioid crisis. These payments are distributed to states and MUST be used specifically for opioid-related programs. We have successfully won one of the first of these grants.
